Stuart Roy joins Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group as National Director of Wine and Spirits. Responsible for overseeing the beverage program at each of the iconic locations owned and operated by Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group, Roy will manage staff training, vendor relations, the award-winning wine lists and premium cocktails available at each restaurant.
A graduate of Louisiana State University, Roy holds an advanced diploma from the Court of Master Sommeliers and is certified as a USBG Master Accreditation Spirits Professional by the United States Bartenders’ Guild. Entering the restaurant industry to help pay for college, he has since worked for some of the country’s most notable establishments including: The Four Seasons in New York, Beano’s Cabin in Beaver Creek, the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown, Martha’s Vineyard, the Cosmopolitan in Telluride and Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.
“I am delighted to be changing venues to the ultimate classic steakhouse, to start pairing fantastic wines and cocktails with the famed steaks and seafood of Smith & Wollensky. My goal is to offer the finest possible product, that’s both unique and a good value, delivering an experience that blows guests away and leaves them wanting to return,” said Roy. “Each Smith & Wollensky location has a distinctive feel and personality. My greatest challenge and opportunity is to keep them all unique yet offer a consistently superior wine and spirits menu.”
Roy is currently building the wine lists for The Forty-Ninth National Wine Week, Sept. 12-16th. “My goal is to get a couple of jewels on the Wine Week menu that most people can’t taste every day. I am already in the process of talking long-term partnerships with some really great wineries and wine makers for partnerships that would kick off with National Wine Week.” Roy is also busy preparing for the late summer opening of the second Smith & Wollensky Boston location on the historic Atlantic Wharf. He is responsible for crafting the wine and spirits menus, as well as hiring and training all bartenders and sommeliers.
