America’s Classic Steakhouse, Smith & Wollensky Launches in Korea

  • New York's premier steakhouse, known as Warren Buffett's charity luncheon venue, finally arrives in Hannam-dong
  • The largest dry-aging facility in Korea will receive direct air delivery of the world’s best quality USDA Prime Beef hand selected from within the top 2% of all US beef.
  • As many as 700 wine selections with a majority of those being premium American wines.

1st Oct, 2024 - Smith & Wollensky, the world famous classic steakhouse, will open its first Korean location in in Hannam-dong on October 1.

Since establishing its flagship restaurant in New York in 1977, this iconic steakhouse, renowned for its exceptional selection of prime meat, has maintained its distinguished position as a premier American steakhouse. After commencing its global expansion  in London, in 2015 and Taiwan in 2018, the restaurant will now  introduce premium steaks and American wines that cater to the refined tastes of Korean consumers.

Nicknamed “The Steakhouse to end all Arguments” after a distinguished review in the New York Times, Smith & Wollensky has prominently featured in numerous Hollywood movies and television series, including “The Devil Wears Prada,” “American Psycho,” “Wall Street,” “Friends with Benefits,” “bag,” “The Crown,” “The Gentlemen,” “Cruella” and “Slow Horses.”

Furthermore, the steakhouse is celebrated for its innovative philanthropic endeavors, particularly the “Lunch with Warren Buffett” event, which has raised approximately $53 million over the years, including the largest single bid of $19 million in 2022.

Smith & Wollensky sources from among the top 2% of all US beef, known as USDA Prime, celebrated worldwide for its consistent marbling. These prime cuts are meticulously selected according to stringent standards from humanely raised, grain-fed cattle, and are expertly cooked to enhance natural flavors and tenderness through in-house dry aging for a minimum of 28 days. The restaurant sources all its USDA Prime steaks from esteemed top-tier producers such as Double R Ranch and Snake River Farms. The beef is produced using sustainable practices, ensuring it is eco-friendly and positively impacts both nature and society.

The Seoul Smith & Wollensky will use meat flown directly from the U.S. and will offer world-class dry-aged meat finished from Korea's largest specialty dry-aging facility, equipped with state-of-the-art technology.

Diners can look forward to a diverse selection of premium dishes, including the signature ‘Swinging Tomahawk’ and ‘Porterhouse Steak,’ complemented by an exquisite wine pairing to enhance the dining experience.

Smith & Wollensky is also famed for curating an exceptional California-centric wine list. Korea will be no exception. Their head sommelier and on-site wine director, with many years of experience in Seoul’s luxury market, will cast his expert eye over the new restaurant’s extensive collection. Inspired by the rich history ‘Seoul’ and ‘Hannam,’ and their place on the world stage, Smith & Wollensky Seoul has created a unique selection of cocktails – both classic and signature - along with a range alternative offerings such as high quality teas, all of which can be enjoyed both before and after meals.

The location of this exceptional restaurant is on the 7th and 8th  floors as well as the  rooftop of a building in the heart of Hannam-dong, enabling customers to enjoy an outdoor lounge with a view overlooking the entire Hannam-dong area. A total of five private rooms are available, allowing for accommodations from 6-24 people, making it ideal for private gatherings.
